About Heckle Extra Bold
Heckle Extra Bold is a part of the Heckle font family. It includes OpenType features such as common ligatures, fractions, and several more.
Heckle (2026) is a family of display fonts that began as a tiny sketch of the word “Heh” on a scrap of paper back in 2005 — a heavy brush script style with a 1940s/1950s feel. It wasn’t based on any particular source or model, but purely from the memory of such styles.
After doing a draft of the upper- and lowercase in 2017 I committed to developing it in October 2025, expanding it to six weights, from Light to Black. In contrast to the initial sketch, it uses sharp corners on the insides of curves, giving it a crisp, energetic appearance. It features an alternate lowercase “e,” contextual alternates for all-caps settings, automatic fractions, and a set of dingbats.
Heckle is well suited for branding, packaging, logos, editorial design, movie and book titles — any kind of display use where a smart, vintage style is called for.
